Here I am writing this article with a POV of a computer science and engineering student. Starting from admissions in KIIT to scholarships, to fee structure.
Due to Covid-19 the admission pattern have been altered a bit but more or less it is similar to what I faced during my admission in 2018.
For students of 2021 this is the protocol which will be followed. Details of each process will be shared down below in the article. So stay tuned!!

Next Steps ?
First Congratulations if you have made this far !!
Next KIIT will announce the counselling date in its official website here which might be online this year.
Most Likely Counselling will start from 11th July, 2021.
There will be a counselling fee of Rs.75000 out of which Rs.10000 will be Non-Refundable. This means that if you opt-out from taking admission in KIIT after attending counselling Rs.65000 will refunded to your account. Those students who will be getting admitted in KIIT, this Rs.75000 will be a part of the admission process which will be issued in favor of the KIIT LAPTOP and your other academic essentials.
So What Happens in Counselling?
Apart from all the introduction and know your college/campus, the main agenda of counselling will be to select your department of study, choose the type of hostel, accredit for scholarship and optionally get finance( study loan ) depending upon the other factors I mentioned.
When will I get My Laptop and what will be its Configuration?
You will get your Laptop anytime between your counselling up till before your first month in KIIT.
KIIT offers Laptop of HP/Dell depending upon their config and stock.
Minimum specs include 16 GB of DDR4 Ram, 512 GB SSD, Intel Graphics + Nvidia MX series GPU, Touchscreen, Touchscreen pen, 360 degree convertible Ultrabook.
Which department will I get based on my Rank in KIITEE?
Now this is a very ambiguous topic. Why ? First of all it is your sole choice which department you want to opt. But it is not necessary that you will get that department because maybe that course is in high demand and all seats have filled up.
In my time “The PRE-COVID” era in 2018 computer science engineering with total of almost 750 seats were filled up at almost rank 3000-4500.
Now here is the caveat, My Rank was 1103 but on the day of counselling I was the 48th candidate out of the 500 (category general + male) seats [All the girls had their counselling one day prior]. And believe me computer science engineering seats vanish like fire. But you would ask how I was the 48th candidate when my rank was 1103. That happened because not all students who appear for the examination come for counselling. In my case 1103 – 48 -250 = 805 students did not come for counselling roughly speaking.
My prediction for this year will be that this number 805 will increase this year due to which people with rank up till 5000 can expect Computer Science and Engineering or its sister derivatives like Information Technology(IT) , Computer Science and Systems Engineering(CSSE) or Computer Science and Communication Engineering( CSCE ).
If I have options which branch/department should I choose?
In todays world this equation is very simple.
After 4 years would you like to be unemployed and do nothing?
No right? If you choose any core subjects, irrespective of the college barring a few their is little to no prospect of employment due to the recession and other market downfall due to COVID-19.
Also no one is stopping you to take a leap of faith. Who knows may be after 4 years this market will boom but that is only a small percentage of hope you can have. Nevertheless if you opt for any Computer Science subjects or its sister departments or are willing to study computer parallelly with your core department you can expect a good handsome salary at the end of your journey.
My suggestion will be choose core subjects [Mechanical, Civil, etc.] only if you have immense passion or you are planning for higher studies or do management after Bachelors
KIIT offers many scholarships you can discover later on but the primary is KIIT merit scholarship which in my time was Rs10000 per month per semester until you graduate.
Also you must fulfill certain criteria throughout your college life to benefit this offer. Some of them being having 75% attendance in all semesters, having minimum 7.5 CGPA in all semesters and having no backlogs or disciplinary issues.
Expected Expenses / Fees for BTECH
|Tuition Fee||Rs.1400000 (8 semesters)||Mandatory|
|Hostel 3 bed AC||Rs.60000 – Rs.70000 (per semester)||Recommended [Hot + Humid]|
|Hostel 2 bed AC||Rs.75000-Rs.100000(per semester)||Luxury [5 star hotel type rooms]|
|Hostel 3 bed NON-AC||Rs.30000-Rs.40000(per semester)||Only if you can manage the climate|
Finally, Why Choose KIIT ?
Most people say that KIIT is expensive or over-priced. But keeping into consideration the following criteria decide for yourself:If you get Computer Science and Engineering at the end of 4th year you will feel no less than in any aspects compared to a student from NIT or IIT. Don’t Believe? Let me show you how.
- By the end of December in 4th year 95% students of CSE get placed in a reputed firm offering 7lpa to 40lpa. Rest 4% excel in competitive exams like GATE, GRE, CAT, etc.
- 5 students from the batch of 2019- 23 have cleared GSOC (Google Summer of Code)
- Darshil Agrawal, my batchmate has been awarded a WWDC scholarship from Apple. Only 350 students worldwide get selected every year.
- Inspiring Mentors and Professors and treats everyone without any bias.
